Freightways Limited acquired Freightways Express Limited (FEL) and its subsidiaries in December 2002. At that time FEL had 60,000,000 preference shares on issue and listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX).
As part of the Freightways Limited Initial Public Offer (IPO) in September 2003, an exchange offer was made to FEL preference shareholders to exchange a portion of their FEL preference shares for Freightways Limited ordinary shares. On 21 October 2003 all outstanding FEL shares were redeemed and cancelled. FEL was subsequently de-listed from the NZX.
