The Freightways Journey

Our Express Package origins date back to 1964 when Jim Corkill started New Zealand Couriers with two courier vans and capital of $1000 pounds. This picture, known to Freightways as “The Morrie Men” is a reflection of our humble beginnings and spirit of entrepreneurship. As pictured, Associated Couriers was formed in 1967 to handle the North Island Databank contract. Shareholders were New Zealand Couriers Limited (Auckland) and Mercury Couriers Limited (Wellington). In 1969 New Zealand Couriers partnered with Mercury Couriers to become New Zealand’s first national courier services carrier.

  • Castle Parcels was acquired by Freightways in 1974 and is perfectly located to serve the non-document needs of businesses around New Zealand.

  • Freightways’ flagship brand is positioned as the premier provider of network courier services to New Zealand businesses and joined Freightways in 1977

  • Post Haste joined the Freightways family in 1977 and is an integral part of the network courier infrastructure

  • Security Express was developed by Freightways to service your more unusual, hard-to-solve freight requirements in a one-stop logistical shop

  • Acquired by Freightways back in 1986, through hard work, passion and commitment, DX Mail has grown to become leaders in business mail communication

  • Freightways Information Services (FIS) is an internal shared services provider of information technology and advisory services to the Freightways businesses

  • An integral part of the Freightways infrastructure, Parceline Express operates our line-haul on all the arterial roads in New Zealand

  • SUB60 was formed in 1982 and is the largest nationwide time sensitive courier company in New Zealand. SUB60 was acquired by Freightways in 1990

  • TIMG are the experts in information management, with a focus on innovatively helping businesses to securely and efficiently transform, manage or destroy their business information. TIMG NZ joined the Freightways family in 1994.

  • Freightways acquired Fieldair in November 1999, gaining full control of our networks air linehaul requirements

  • Freightways listed on the NZX in 2003

  • This 2005 acquisition to the Express Package division strengthened Freightways’ position in the time-sensitive courier sector

  • TIMG (Australia) joined the Freightways family in 2006. TIMG are the experts in information management, with a focus on innovatively helping businesses to securely and efficiently transform, manage or destroy their business information

  • Shred‐X is a nationally recognised secure destruction provider with the highest industry accreditations and became apart of Freightways in 2007

  • A Freightways acquisition in 2008, NOW Couriers specialises in responsive, friendly service for Auckland businesses with national courier needs

  • STUCK was born in 2010 to service your more unusual, hard-to-solve freight requirements in a one-stop logistical shop

  • Developed by Post Haste, Pass The Parcel is a simple online courier solution designed with Kiwi online traders in mind

  • Dataprint works to revolutionise the traditional mail house sector and was acquired by Freightways in 2012

  • LitSupport was acquired by Freightways in 2014 and helps law firms, corporations and government agencies within Australia find, process and present information

  • Created by Shred-X in 2017, Med-X Healthcare Solutions provide products and services for the safe and secure handling, treatment and disposal of clinical waste and related services

  • Freightways acquired Big Chill in 2020. Big Chill is a New Zealand market leader in temperature-controlled transport

  • Produce Pronto are New Zealand’s most flexible corporate fruit delivery company and were acquired by Freightways in 2021

  • Allied Express is the largest independent courier and express freight company in Australia. They joined Freightways in 2022

  • Freightways listed on the ASX on the 14 September 2023
